Quilts! Quilts!

I spent Friday and Saturday looking at all the beautiful quilts sent into the Bloggers Quilt Festival.  There were so many and so beautiful and so many great post to go with them.  I had quilts swimming around in my head last night as I went to bed.  This goes until Nov 5 so if you have not checked it out you will be missing a wonderful array of talent .  The link is in post from Friday.  I could not visit all the sites in one day.  My husband thought I had lost my mind.  He only knew I was here because I fixed him lentil soup.  LOL.

Bloggers Quilt Festival

I picked this quilt for the festival as it was given to a special boy and for two special reasons.  My daughter could never have children of her own.  This very special young woman pregnant and single made my daughter a mom.  During the pregnancy they became close and we learned of different situations in her life and also meant her 2 children that were at home.  Home life was not very good.  The one boy touched my heart.  I wanted him to have something of his own, made just for him.  I made the quilt from a pattern in a book that is upstairs and don't remember the name.  I also made one for his little sister that I did not know as well. 
This quilt was made with many feeling in my heart.  I felt deep gratitude to his mother for allowing my daughter to have from birth a child of her own.  I wanted the boy who recieved the quilt to feel loved and important.

My Joe had 2nd radiation treatment for cancer so maybe later can add more.  This is so fun. 

Apples, apples and more apples

I am back up to my ears in apples.  This is handy,dandy apple peeler and it is a handy tool.  Drying apples and will have yummy dried apple pie this winter.  I am from Los Angeles and never heard of dried apple pie until my mother-in-law who was from Kentucky showed me how to make it.  Yum!
We just had a whopper of a storm go through, high wind, tornado warnings and rain coming down in sheets.  It was a fast mover and is here and gone and now we are wet and chilly. 
My house smells sooooooooooo good with the apples drying.

I have not had time for much quilting but am doing a little here and there.  Hope you all have a great day.

Orange Friday on Daisy Quilt Blog

I have enjoyed colorful Fridays on DaisyQuilts.blogspot.com for some weeks and I find myself looking for colors that are for that Friday and today I just decided to join in the fun.  Here are my Oranges for Friday.  I will be seeing orange all day.  LOL

Fall in my home

These photos are of my porch, very little decoration this year as porch is suppose to get repaired this fall and didn't want to move a bunch of decorations whenever the fellow shows up.
I have photo of 'burning bush" that is turning really nicely and maple tree that is changing. 
These are miniature roses and this is the last roses of summer.
In my house are all the house plants that are inside for the winter.
The air is crisp and clean and will probably rain in a couple of days.  Have the wood burning stove fired up and the evenings are very pleasant. 
I have knitting needles, yarn and markers and row counter and am ready to start a sock.  Maybe this weekend I will do that. 

Here we go

Today is first day of radiation for my Joe's cancer.  We will have daily radiation for 8 weeks. 
It is a beautiful fall day.  The air is crisp and clear and leaves all over the ground.  I love fall.
I was looking at someone's blog and they had knitted socks.  I have not knitted socks since I
was a teenager and that was a lifetime ago.  LOL>
I went to library and checked out a couple of books to review and learn new methods.  My
goodness, it has changed.  I think I will try my hand at this as I will have much time in cancer
center.  I will have to get a bit of yarn and some needles but that will not be a problem but fun seeing what is available, especially in yarn. 
I always have cotton yarn here and knit dishcloths as needed as I love homemade ones as
opposed to the flimsy, worthless ones you buy. 
I had best get busy and get my Joe headed to shower and ready for the events of the day.
I am about done with table topper and will take it with me today to work on finishing applique.
I am working on Amish puzzle pincushion upstairs but no photo yet. 

One more project

This is table topper in progress.  One side holly and berries. Other side fall and have to sew everything down and finish sewing on more buttons and binding . 

Saturday

It is sure lazy around here today.  It has been busy week as sister-in-law in hospital so lots of visits.  Husband getting ready for 8 weeks of radiation for cancer and still doing apples.
We heat with wood burning stove only.  Our home was built in 1834 and has 11inch thick brick walls.  We did not restore it or upgrade it.  We bought it and 2 acres to raise 5 children in and we did.  We last used the furnace in 1978.  We heat totally with wood and it has been a lot of work but warm and toasty and saves us major money in fuel cost.  We also bought adjoining lot and used it for 1 acre of garden, good food, lots of work and saved bundle of money and that came in handy at college time. 

Fun stuff

Isn't that little sewing caddy cute?  It is pattern from McCalls and fits around coffee cup or whatever you want to use or size it too.  It is made because I thought it cute and found to my delight it as handy as it is cute. 

The second picture is "pickle dish" quilt pattern I am SLOWLY working on with too many other things and it is made using Inklingo and is so easy to sew together. 

Apple Butter

It is fall in Ohio and fall apples are ready.  I have apple butter made and have made apple crisp and am preparing apple pie filling to freeze.  My house smells sssssoooooooo good.  Yum!

Progress on Holly Hobby

Hello! It is Sunday night and I am getting ready to sew. I always forget to record progress on the camera. I am trying to decide how I will lay out this wall hanging. I have more appliqued heart flowers to add. I just haven't decided where and how. This has been put together as I go along. I have used many different methods.
The diamonds are 4 diamonds pieced using Inklingo , printing on back of fabric and will be appliqued on. The hexagon flowers are also printed on back of fabric using Inklingo. The top is folded hexagon from a Japanese magazine.
I wish I had put it on different color background rather than white but that is not going to be changed now. Nothing is sewn so I can change it if I want.
I think I will post 3 photos and go to bed. I am really tired tonight.

Sunday evening and one tired lady

It is Sunday and chilly. We started our first fire in wood burning stove yesterday. We do not have furnace and heat only with wood. It feels so good as it is really chilly out
We had such a great weekend. My husbands nephew from Oregon and his lovely wife were out here for his high school reunion. We had all local family in and out all day Saturday. I think we had total of 18 people and most stayed all day. What a fun day!
We had sandwich stuff, cole slaw, potato salad, apple crisp, deviled eggs, pumpkin cake and chips and rice krispie treats. People could eat as hunger hit.
Sunday we had all but four there until Tom and Rosanne got ready to leave at 3 pm. I enjoyed it so much and did not realize until I finished cleaning up and when I sat down, boy did I fade fast. LOL.
I love family and having all of them together and listening to all the chatter and tall tales being told and the laughter and children forming new friendships is just something that makes my heart glad.
I have made no progress on quilts or wall hanging. I see that posting is a little more work and discipline than I imagined. I don't think any one reads this blog so it is no problem.
