Homespun Holiday Give-away

This package just came in the mail today.  This was from "Andsewon blog" with a lovely note and a beautiful Christmas tree ornament.  Since I don't take my tree down until after the New Year it is still very much in time and on the tree now.
Thank you, Lola.  This was fun and your card and note and ornament were very thoughtful.  I love homespun so all the material was great and the two patterns were darling. I think the panel will be up for next year in some form , will have to think about it.
We just finished up the 42nd radiation treatment for my husband and are hopeful for good results.  He is have a lot of side effects but they will start to diminish on a daily basis.
Happy New Year to each and everyone.  Love and Hugs Lois

Colorful Friday Christmas Colors at Daisy Quilts

I had so hoped to have decorations up but the flu bug took over this week and today is first day up and around much since Sunday.  I have a few favorite colors but green and red for Christmas are my very favorite.  My stuffed Santa is from Quilt in a Day pattern ages ago and took 5 lbs to plump him up.
My favorite Christmas story is from book of Matthew and my favorite fiction is from Charles Dickins.
Wall hangings and snowmen abound and tree goes up Sat.  with daughters help.
Have a blessed and Merry Christmas with family, friends and memories past and memories you make this year.  Love and Hugs   Lois
Whoops forgot favorite song is Away in a Manger

Name of tool

I went to Bayside Quilting website so I would be sure I was giving correct information.  It is 'Fun and Done" tool.  Bayside Quilting has video that demonstrates this for quilts.  Thanks  Love Lois

What to do on Sunday afternoon with the flu.

This is new tool I ordered
I had no intention of
making "mug rug" until I
saw this and thought it was
perfect finished size.  It finishes
at 7 1/2 square. Tool  is two pieces and the smaller nests inside the larger piece.
Larger piece cuts backing and squares up
batting and top and then allows your to  form hem around
finished product. Smaller piece cuts top and batting that fit perfectly inside larger piece to square up ensuring even hem.

Moving right along

This shows layout of backing, batting and top.  It is centered and pinned.  The edges you see of the backing piece will be the part that binds the mug rug.  There is a video on Bayside Quilting that shows how to use this tool for quilts.

More stuff

Hearts on fusible interfacing ready to be sewn and then turned right side out and added with stitching, mine with buttonhole stitching
Sewn down
Now the edges are ironed and ready to stitch.
Number two
Number three and last for the day.  Simple and fun and tool is great.  I make a lot of baby quilts to give away and that was what made me check out this tool.  It did seem perfect for mug rugs that seem to be the" gotta make" and" gotta have one",for fun sewing on blogland.

Blog Give-away

Out in blog land is a lovely blogsite that is having a give away Dec. 12.  Check it out.  http://ansewon.blogspot.com'/

A new finish

I just thought I would like a card holder but not something really large.  I just finished and hung my new card holder.  I probably better have the old stand by basket handy.  I noticed last year that the amount of cards we get at Christmas was about half the amount we usually get. I wonder if it is cost of stamps and or internet and e-cards.

Getting ready for Christmas, sorta

Table runner that I just finished last night.  It is from Lynette Jensens Table Topper for all seasons.  I made it all by machine and it is felt and fabric.  All scraps.

How cold is it?

Who is that peeking in my window?

Not as cold as it is going to get. Burr!

Even the snowmen are trying to get in out of the cold.

Silver Friday

I realized in selecting silver that my favorite silver was in the hair and whiskers of this man that has shared my life for 49 years.

Friday

I hope you have all rested up from yesterday and are enjoying this beautiful day.  We are a bit chilly at 27 degrees.  I don't do much shopping so the busy world can just do it's thing without me.
This little table topper I finished the other night in time to use for Thanksgiving.  It is from Art to Heart book and I am pleased with it.  It was table runner and I just circled the boys and made table topper.

Thanksgiving

"May the Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord maake His face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance on you, and give you peace."
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends, giving thanks in all you do.  God Bless Each and Every One of You.   Love Lois

Christmas Quilt Show 2010

There is a blog land Christmas quilt show.  This is my Christmas wall hanging.  If you would like to view some really great and fun Christmas quilts this is the blogsite.  http://sewcalgal.blogspot.com/2010/11/christmas-quilt-show-2010.html
What a fun idea and a very nice thing to do.  If you have a Christmas quilt or wall hanging or table topper or etc head on over and enter and view all the great quilts and new sites.
My wall hanging was made using Kaye Wood diamond template.  I made it a few years ago and probably like the bows that I used to hang almost more than the wall hanging.  Love and Hugs Lois

Monday, Monday

I finished the quilt top, small crib size, last night.  I was looking at it and I know the background pattern is from a blog I saw at Bloggers Quilt Festival but just sized it myself  and added daisy like flower on top.  I just got the catalog from Connecting Threads and there is a book in there with same idea.  I have not seen book before and did not have catalog but mention it just in case someone has and thinks I have used idea with no credit but that is not the case.  Mine is nothing like photo on the cover, believe me.  I will take a minute and run get catalog and enter name.  Be right back.
Okay, now I am in a hurry as we are ready to go to cancer center.  Book is "Big Fun with a Little Fabric" by Amanda Herring.
I just got back had to run out the door, no hassle for cancer patients, thats my goal.
I have two containers of scraps I am working out of until they are gone.  LOL!  Well, I will work out of them.  Saw another quilt on blog, I need to make notes, I will try my version of what I saw.  It was white sq. surrounded by small peiced squares.  I really liked it and it is my next project.  I will get about half a dozen tops done and then finish them.
I would like to say this is all my scraps but I also have huge tub full of scraps but that is down the road or will be someone elses when I die.  Which ever comes first.  LOL

New Button

I just added a new button at the bottom of my blog.  It is a great block of the month and is free.  It is also a beautiful blogsite.  I hope you will check it out.  Love and Hugs.

Sunday and still trying to warm up

It is so cold out and Sat. and Sun. we spent on the soccer field sidelines cheering for granddaughter.  It was so cold.  Last games and in tournament of the soccer season.  She lives about an hour from us and we don't often get to see her play.  I do not have another thing done.  Working on Bible study that I lead on Tues and it has been hard to pull together.  Not because it is difficult but am in time frame and with this lesson on joy and prayer, I could go on for a long time.  LOL.  Now that won't do at all.
We have Thanksgiving coming up and it is my favorite family holiday.  Need to get it all organized.  We usually have 15-18 people and it is always fun.
I wish everyone a wonderful week.  Love and hugs.

More pink at http://daisyquilts.blogspot.com/

Well I do make pink quilts so I guess I could put a couple on pink Friday.  Have a great weekend.  I will so enjoy seeing all the "pink" posts.  Love and Hugs.   PS  I did ask  my husband if I could take photo of his belly button cause it is pink but he said no.  LOL

Pink Friday

Almost got by me!  Busy week. My Joe on radiation treatment # 8 done and 34 more to go.  Doing great.
I had hard time with pink.  I use a lot in making baby quilts and like it, especially bright pinks but don't have a lot around.  I think I love earthtones the best.  I love spring colors but fall is my very favorite.  I love all shades of earthtones.  Here is my collage.

This is current project in sewing room.  It is scrap, baby quilt, 4 1/2" squares alternating with 21/2" x 41/2"rect. until I have size I want.  Usually about 40x45, not smaller and going to normal crib size 45x60.  I think when I am done I will applique large dark purple daisy like flower on top.  Will start on that tonight.  Spent last night cutting out.  I pick decorative stitch and tack ever 4 inches to finish.  Have a good day.
This quilt is shaggy pattern from Brandy's book that I laid on quilt.  I think I also laid it by mistake on star quilt.

I also make baby quilts for church.  They go in basket of goodies to mom and baby.  I have two tops done but not finished yet. Star is made using Nancy Notion star templete.

What am I doing???

I have one more batch of apples to dry and I will BE DONE.  HURRAH!  I love it but I am tired of doing apples.  Will make for good eating this winter.
I found a knitting project that I started when I had cancer and was doing chemo.  It affected feeling in my hands and feet and could not quilt so I knit.  I put it away when feeling came back and got it out again while Joe is doing radiation, I knit.  It is a shawl from prayer shawl book.

Wow! Wednesday already.

Can't believe it is Wednesday.  Haven't you enjoyed the Bloggers Quilt Festival?  I have loved it.  How wonderful is it to get to share ideas, blogs and creativity.

Here is photo of my Lilly, the reason for quilt I made and gave.  She is ready for trick or treat and is Minnie Mouse.  How cute is that?

Quilts! Quilts!

I spent Friday and Saturday looking at all the beautiful quilts sent into the Bloggers Quilt Festival.  There were so many and so beautiful and so many great post to go with them.  I had quilts swimming around in my head last night as I went to bed.  This goes until Nov 5 so if you have not checked it out you will be missing a wonderful array of talent .  The link is in post from Friday.  I could not visit all the sites in one day.  My husband thought I had lost my mind.  He only knew I was here because I fixed him lentil soup.  LOL.
I am off to church and hope you all have a blessed Sunday.

Josh's quilt for Blogger Quilt Festival

Bloggers Quilt Festival

I picked this quilt for the festival as it was given to a special boy and for two special reasons.  My daughter could never have children of her own.  This very special young woman pregnant and single made my daughter a mom.  During the pregnancy they became close and we learned of different situations in her life and also meant her 2 children that were at home.  Home life was not very good.  The one boy touched my heart.  I wanted him to have something of his own, made just for him.  I made the quilt from a pattern in a book that is upstairs and don't remember the name.  I also made one for his little sister that I did not know as well.
This quilt was made with many feeling in my heart.  I felt deep gratitude to his mother for allowing my daughter to have from birth a child of her own.  I wanted the boy who recieved the quilt to feel loved and important.
This is quilt I entered and it is at http://amyscreativeside.com/2010/10/29bloggers-quilt-festival-fall-2010/

Apples, apples and more apples

I am back up to my ears in apples.  This is handy, dandy apple peeler and it is a handy tool.  Drying apples and will have yummy dried apple pie this winter.  I am from Los Angeles and never heard of dried apple pie until my mother-in-law who was from Kentucky showed me how to make it.  Yum!
We just had a whopper of a storm go through, high wind, tornado warnings and rain coming down in sheets.  It was a fast mover and is here and gone and now we are wet and chilly.
My house smells sooooooooooo good with the apples drying.

I have not had time for much quilting but am doing a little here and there.  Hope you all have a great day.

Fall in my home

These photos are of my porch, very little decoration this year as porch is suppose to get repaired this fall and didn't want to move a bunch of decorations whenever the fellow shows up.
I have photo of 'burning bush" that is turning really nicely and maple tree that is changing.
These are miniature roses and this is the last roses of summer.
In my house are all the house plants that are inside for the winter.
The air is crisp and clean and will probably rain in a couple of days.  Have the wood burning stove fired up and the evenings are very pleasant.
I have knitting needles, yarn and markers and row counter and am ready to start a sock.  Maybe this weekend I will do that.

Here we go

Today is first day of radiation for my Joe's cancer.  We will have daily radiation for 8 weeks.
It is a beautiful fall day.  The air is crisp and clear and leaves all over the ground.  I love fall.
I was looking at someone's blog and they had knitted socks.  I have not knitted socks since I
was a teenager and that was a lifetime ago.  LOL>
I went to library and checked out a couple of books to review and learn new methods.  My
goodness, it has changed.  I think I will try my hand at this as I will have much time in cancer
center.  I will have to get a bit of yarn and some needles but that will not be a problem but fun seeing what is available, especially in yarn.
I always have cotton yarn here and knit dishcloths as needed as I love homemade ones as
opposed to the flimsy, worthless ones you buy.
I had best get busy and get my Joe headed to shower and ready for the events of the day.
I am about done with table topper and will take it with me today to work on finishing applique.
I am working on Amish puzzle pincushion upstairs but no photo yet.

One more project

This is table topper in progress.  One side holly and berries. Other side fall and have to sew everything down and finish sewing on more buttons and binding .
